4Geo have experience working in insurance, risk, disaster risk reduction and Government in the UK, China and throughout the world. Some sectors 4Geo have worked in include:
Agriculture
In recent years there are have been rising prices for crops and feed and increasing pressure on water resources. Satellite imagery analysis can help farms make better use of their resources by feeding and watering efficiently. By using precision agriculture techniques, farms can be managed more effectively allowing greater productivity. Our research in this area is focussed on sugar-beet crops but can be applied to other arable crops.
Civil Engineering
GIS is at the forefront of large infrastructure projects providing a single source of truth to all the stakeholders in the project. In such multi-disciplinary environments, information management and GIS skills allow engineers and contractors access to timely information in a quick and efficient manner. Having worked on the Tideway Tunnel project from its inception our GIS skills have been used across the planning, design and early build phases.
Insurance
From claims management to premium setting/rate making, spatial analysis helps to understand the risks of insuring properties in different locations. We have experience of developing risk data products which can be used to set premiums, help pricing strategy and develop underwriting decision support systems. Remote sensing and GIS technology can help to provide additional intelligence of insured risks. Current work includes researching the use of remote sensing and GIS to better understand marine and port risk accumulations.
Local Government
Local Authorities in the UK are part way through a 40% cut in funding from central government. With these budget cuts, LAs are increasingly looking to using open-source GIS solutions to help provide each department with access to time sensitive information about the local area. 4Geo have experience of using and training users of a normal of open-source GIS software, and can provide an independent review and suggestions for saving money and making better use of geographic information.
Utilities
4Geo have experience of mapping and visualising water and energy infrastructure and have advocated the use of a number of bespoke systems to help utility companies actively manage and maintain their infrastructure.
